ART GALLERY OF HAMILTON’S VITAL AFRICA CELEBRATION
INSPIRES CHILDREN’S ART AND PERFORMANCE PROGRAMMES
On the last Sunday of June, July and August, art, music and dance fill the Gallery as the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Vital Africa celebration inspires its Family Fun Days and Performance series for kids and families.
On Sunday, June 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, Family Fun Day participants will make their own creations with Traditional Beads inspired by the dazzling African art works on display in the AGH exhibition Dance of Life: The Tanenbaum African Collection. At 3 pm, Once Upon An African Village will present an entertaining program using the African cultural arts of storytelling, dance and hand drumming.
On Sunday, July 25 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Family Fun Day presents Inspired by Africa - Making Masks with historical and contemporary masks as the creative starting point. At 3 pm, renowned storyteller Phyllis Walker tells the tale of Anansi 'n Friends.
On Sunday August 29 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Family Fun Day artists will create Tropical Landscapes inspired by the awe-inspiring nature and landscapes of Africa. At 3 pm, join South African musician, Kevin Fell in HOZA!, an astounding musical journey of interactive songs and rhythms performed on his rain-boots, Djembe drum and a very special oil-tin guitar.
Family Fun Day activities are $5.00 per family (up to 4 children) and free for AGH Members. Performances are included with Family Fun Day admission. Pre-registration is not required but we recommend arriving early as spaces may be limited. Please visit Front Desk upon arrival to receive your stickers for all Family Workshops.
